Hmmmm that pesky up2date program might have been run by my friends at
the RHN! Is that the problem? How do I fix it? Do I need to reinstall
all the Perl modules?

Weren't there? Does your OS have an autoupdate daemon?
Did it, say, update your perl at that time?
