I feel embarrassed to ask this, but I just did a fresh RT 3.4.2 install on a RHEL 4 machine and put my customizations in place, and I'm getting my modified Mason components & Perl overlays, but not my Callbacks. I removed the mason cache, stopped & started Apache and the error messages have gone, but still no callbacks.
Somewhere around there, for both that ancient RT and ancient Mason, there were changes to Mason's internals that broke Callbacks. Updating mason and the Elements/Callback should improve things.
