I'm confused about custom fields for groups.

If I create a custom field, and set 'applies to' to be groups, I don't
appear to be able to set this field when editing a group or creating a
new group, like I'd expect to be able to.

In fact, I don't know where I can set this custom field at all.

Have I misunderstood something?
