You want to do both of these using CSS. You can add local CSS using the Theme Editor under Configuration -> Tools. Both 1 and 2 are simple one-line CSS snippets. If you're not familiar with CSS, find someone who is, or maybe someone will chime in here. I'm pretty sure I've answered #2 before on this mailing list, but don't have it handy.
