Look dude, I lost a pet of 14 years that I brought home from Germany last Winter. She was a very gentle dog. I cried like a baby that day. I currently have a Pomeranian, and three cats, so I share your experience of considering a pet to be like a family member. But our similarities end there.
It just so happens that my mother passed away Feb 10th 7 years ago, and I lost Vicky Feb 11th 5 years ago. That makes Valentine's day a rough time of the year for me. I sympathize with the loss of your pet. Though I am a Christian, I don't mind quoting philosophers from different religions when they have something profound / true to say.
