There a question about them things in the paper a couple of months back.
The paper said they were just traffic control devices and were not taking
pictures or sending video anywhere:

http://www.ci.huntsville.al.us/Engineering/TrafficEng/projects.html

"A video detection system has been ordered for the intersections of Meridian
St. and Oakwood Ave., Patton Rd. and Drake Ave., and Williams Ave. and
Church St. Rather than using loops cut into the pavement, video cameras will
detect the presence of vehicles and control the movements of the
intersection."

However, there is this little tidbit on the city website too:

http://www.ci.huntsville.al.us/Engineering/TrafficEng/functions.html

"The City of Huntsville has started work on an Intelligent Transportation
System (ITS). A contract has been awarded to Gresham, Smith, and partners to
design the architecture necessary for implementing the system. Using fiber
optics, computers, and cameras, Traffic Engineers can monitor an
intersection remotely and make changes to the timings and sequencing of the
signals. The ITS program ties all of the traffic signals together and allows
the Traffic Engineers to communicate with the signals from a central command
center."

If they are not watching now, then beware, they will be!

They will know your every move, from the moment you cross into the city
limits!
