the RTI Act pulls in crowds at Book Fair

BALWANT SINGH Satvanshi from Haryana was
excited when he found a non-decrepit stall at the ongoing World Book
Fair Nay, he did not bump into a rare book
there. Instead, the stall offered a whale of information on how to use the
Right to Information (RTI) Act. Tucked into a corner in hall number 12 A, the
stall has books, research reports; bare act (the RTI Act), CDs and manuals
apart from copies of the monthly newsletter of the organization, which is
basically involved in taking the RTI Act to more and more people. The stall by
NGO Kabir has been quite a crowd-puller with people like Satvanshi gobbling up
information, which they can apply back home. "I was aware about the RTI
stuff, but did not know how to use it. I hope, with books and CDs, I will be
able to know more about its application," Satvanshi said. "Back home,
there are many people like me, who suffer due to rampant corruption. I can help
those people too with these books," the rustic youth said, showing a bunch
of books and manuals he purchased from the stall. The stall, apart from selling
books and manuals, offers counseling too. Says Javed Khan from Kabir,
"People have vague ideas about RTI. We help them how the RTI can be used
to find a solution for their problems." Maintaining that the Book Fair
of- fers a good platform, Khan adds, "People from all classes, even the
elite class, visit this fair We want that these books should reach more and
more people for a better impact" RTI activist Arvind Kejariwal's CD on
'RTI Act 2005 - Training Manual' was released on Monday Says Kejriwal,
"The CD deals with provisions of the RTI Act and explains how to use it in
easy way This is a sort of tutorial complete with training manual.".
