As for seven civic body-run pools, those have been given to private contractors to operate. Civic activist Vihar Durve had sought information under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005 in March this year about the swimming pools in the PMC area. The PMC, in its reply, said it has no direct control over the swimming pools under its limits. According to the reply to the RTI application, once the PMC owned-pools are given to the private contractors to operate commercially, then the complete responsibility lies with the contractor only Durve had asked the civic body to provide details like the name and designation of the officer who is supposed to supervise/monitor/regulate the swimming pools. But the PMC in its reply stated that according to the tender and the terms and conditions laid down by the PMC, the pools are given to the private Once the PMC-owned pools are given to the private contractors to operate commercially, the responsibility lies with the contractor contractors to operate. According to Durve, the civic body, however, failed to provide the list of private commercial pools in the city limits. "My question was very clear. How many private commercial swimming pools are there in the city, but the PMC could not answer this question," Durve said. He added that the civic body also could not provide an updated list of the housing society owned pools. Deputy health officer of the PMC, Dr.Dhananjay Chandakkar said the civic body has no details in this regard as the concerned ward offices keep such details."
