Hi,

I've replied personaly to Bernhard about the technical details of is
Email, as the RTAI idea has received little interest from this
community, and I do not want to bother anybody.

> of course :-) Btw: will there be efforts to (re-)join both projects?)

What I want to state plainly is that I always tried and be happy to work
with the parent RTL group. I even suggested improvements and sent a
contribution that could have been of help to the whole community, i.e.
fpu support, just to see it delivered, implemented in a slightly
different way, 6 months later.

That said I want to state clearly that we, here at DIAPM, owe a lot to
the FRIENDs at NMT from whom we learned many things that allowed us to
get back to DOS under Linux. Believe me it is not a joke, because that
is what RTL and RTAI are for us.

I think that the only problem is that they can accept only
"sovrastructure contributions", but not to the the basics that they
want, legitametely, maintain for their own. From an "academic" point of
view I well understand their standing but unfurtunatly their rithm is
not ours. I had to start SMP real time for a couple of applications and
what I see for SMP RTL is still basically what was in 2.1.121. So I do
not care if RTAI is not the best thing on the face of earth but it is
shooting "rockets" already, chewing tens of million of flop in real
time, with an acceptable jitter, on dual SMP. I simply couldn't wait. If
other will use it we'll be happy, because it helps in finding bugs at
the least, but that's not our main concern.

Ciao, Paolo.
