You cannot measure an event to a precision of even 1 microsecond
using a parallel port on a PC running real time Linux. The hardware-related
jitter will be at least an order of magnitude higher than this. If you are
really looking for nanosecond precision, you can resolve around 10 ns
using a PLD-based peripheral like the one I'm developing.
