>(I remind you: THIS is the problem we have to solve.)
I've moderated a number of lists over the years, and frankly lists that
I've had to moderate became moribund and lose their vitality. They die.
I'd suggest that if you get something that offends you, just delete it. I
get 10-15 e-mails a day for stuff that is offensive/uninteresting to me and
I exercise my prerogative as a human being by deleting them.
I've contributed little/nothing to this list - I'm just getting started and
have LOTS of questions about how to get going. I'll take information from
any place I can get it.
In my opinion, the split/no split commentary is counterproductive. I'd
rather see information discussed, flames and all, so that I can sort it
out. If I want bland responses, I'll actually read my e-mail from
Microsoft instead.
What works for me about this list is that it is active and productive and
the issues are real. I intend to contribute much more, and ask many more
questions, once I get a system installed (either one - support and how-to
is very important to me as I have little time available). I DO get a lot
of support from this list. I can DEPEND on the members of this list to
give me important, valuable, and concise information.
Let's not forget that the differences of opinion arise from our commitment
to producing something that will help all of us do our jobs and have fun
doing it.
Bottom line - don't split the list and hit "delete" where necessary. Best,
Reef
