Just a comment why use select? In my opinion poll is better, simpler and easier to understand. Just thingto the various FD_ timespec setup in place of millisecs.
you are right, but the short answer is: Because I need that. =8)
The longer answer is, that for me it is easier to add a select() to RTnet than to rewrite ACE/TAO to use another mechanism.
... so you did the right thing. Wise pragmatism is the way to go as the better is often foe to the good.
