The rt_3c59x is marked as experimental as it suffers from a design problem, and we were not able to test it sufficiently so far. It's not recommended for production use. I can't say much about this particular issue. Maybe also check the kernel console for more informative output. I would simply suggest using a different NIC (EEPRO100, Realtek, etc.). Jan
