On both sides? Then you have to configure one station as master first.
Also take care about the number of slave provided via TDMA_SLAVES in
rtnet.conf. It must exactly match the real number of slave, i.e. one in
this case.

No - as long as you follow the rtnet.conf path, i.e. configure
everything there.

This indicates that your TDMA network is already running at 5 ms cycle
time, and what you get is the worst case that the ping reply is delayed
to the next cycle, thus it takes 2*cycle-time to issue a request in
receive the related reply.
