That starts up the related NIC, specifically enables it's IRQ. Sure you

Nothing you could forget should bring the box down this way. Even IRQ
conflicts /should/ be detected these days (BTW: what versions are you
using?). No clue so far, you will likely have to play with some
variables (NIC hardware if available, Xenomai version if you changed it,
etc.) and/or try to capture any potential oops via a serial console.
