Thanks, that is interesting to read about the 1130. How fast is your rt (at 100Mb=10ns)? Is programming the 1130 expensive and difficult? I see that this device has an onboard 100Mb full duplex MAC. I have a robot with many motors and input sensors, and so I am comparing USB, Firewire, and ethernet in terms of how fast I can move data from a computer to and from these many many external devices.

thanks again,
Ted

Has anybody successfully created an embedded rtnet app (rtnet on a
computer communicating in real-time with a MAC/PHY chip on a PCB)? Do
you think it would be very complex to use a PCB with MAC/PHY to
communicate in real-time with a computer running rtnet?

Yes I do. I implemented a basic RTnet (only slave functionality) on an Infineon TriCore 1130 and a RTapp on top, both running fine. But I don't know if this is what you mean?
