Hi Lily,
On a day to day basis I think Wireshark (http://www.wireshark.org/) handles
just about everything i need it to. Its not very often I need a piece of
hardware that is specifically designed to analyze network communication. At
work we use SmartBits (
http://www.spirent.com/analysis/technology.cfm?media=7&ws=325&ss=110). I'm
sure its expensive... Hope that helps.
