I know OROCOS, and I know it has been used via RTnet before. So there
should be not blocking points.

If you only have two stations in your network, maybe and the other one
is even a non-Linux non-RTnet one but still provides real-time
properties, removing RTmac makes a lot of sense. Another scenario is a
network of coordinated hosts that have other means to manage the
traffic, thus issue only predictable packet patterns. Or you have
special switches that do the traffic control. So there are valid setups
for RTmac-free real-time networks.
