Why do you choose native browser support ?
- There's lots of version of customized Windows/IE that may not
support this feature.
- Installing QuickTime for Firefox is painfull.

Why don't you choose something like:

SoundManager 2: A Sound API for JavaScript
http://ajaxian.com/archives/soundmanager-2-a-sound-api-for-javascript

Which is:
- really crossbrowser
- suported since years
- specialized for sounds effects
