In what sense? Are you speaking in terms of backend processing?
If that's a yes, I have worked with perl for awhile and it thrives in data migrations, billing systems, invoice generation and so forth. Its regular expression engine does win a lot of approval. For web development, there is a pretty good framework that Perl has which is called Catalyst.
