I know my viewpoint is in the minority, but I don't recommend learning Rails from books -- the framework changes too fast, and paper book publishing just can't keep up. Read Programming Ruby (on the Web or on paper), read the Rails Guides, and play around. That's what worked for me (and I'm now doing high-profile Rails development at a Fortune 100 company).
