Hmm, I guess having the output last would be more like other unix utilities such as cp, mv, ... When I dropped the options, I think I thought it looks enough like strcpy() so there was consistency with something. The other thinking was that having the varargs last allows for easy use with xargs etc.

I don't think unexpected order justifies an -o flag, though. For example, the aforementioned cp etc. don't have an -o flag so that you wouldn't have to remember which way the arguments go. If you can't remember the order, how would you remember it's -o instead of e.g. -d?

I don't mind changing the order.  Anyone else have an opinion?
