Note how the urxvt example has much better looking fonts (much less
fuzzy). Likely you use different hinting settings for both apps, leading
to a difference in width.

There are other possibilities too, already explored in the mailing list
archives. It's usually down to an unsuitable (non character-cell) font or
simply different font settings.
