getting color in FreeBSD

I installed rxvt 2.6.2 on a FreeBSD 4.2-STABLE system running XFree86
4.0.2.  I would like to have ls -G (the *BSD version of ls --color) work,
as well as vim.  However, I do not have a /etc/DIR_COLORS file as
refrenced in the FAQ at <http://www.rxvt.org/faq.html>.  the ls man page
does not list any files to edit in a similer fashion to /etc/DIR_COLORS.
Any help  would be much appreciated.  Thank you in advance,
