There was a good article with a drawing on Evans 100 ton coil cars written by James Kinkaid in the Oct 1996 Mainline Modeler. Bill Wade confirmed that this article does refer to the coil car BTS may produce.

I think Jim from RR handled it right several years ago. He built support for new product by talking about it in the press with a full blown informational article (in the Dispatch, I think). As I recall he did an extensive article on the MILW ribbed car, just basically showing the research that they had when doing the cars. Modelers want to know the time span, quantity, paint schemes and the roads that used a particular car. I think showing the car with all the available data would help to sell the car/engine/whatever a lot better than just announcing the 'possibility of a product' and letting cards fall! I have been over to talk with Jettie from Southwind several times over the years where he has shown me what his next project might be--problem is most people don't see his research because it consists of a stack of photos that a dozen people see. I think most of Jettie's projects have failed to materialize because an announcement in a flyer is just a small segment of a project. Write an article with prototype information, photos etc. then announce the product via a press release, next advertise the product and you might find out you have generated much better numbers so a product can go forward in production. Regarding the coil car, I am mildly interested in them, but I have way too many things going on to do a lot of research on them and I can certainly live without them. What's going to sell me on them--tell me about them and yes the price must be right!
