> > (1) Do you actually have a layout, or do you just model in S scale? A. I have a layout, S scale, code 100 rail, most hand laid on wood ties. About 1/3rd is scenicked. I am working on scenery and have many srtructure kits waiting their turn. I have some structures, most kit built but also a prize winning scratch built coaling tower the prototype of which I used to admire in the St. Albans, Vermont yard. Several are LVM but my pride and joy is the Cabin Creek Coal Tipple from BTS. > (2) If you do run your scale models on a layout, [yours or anybody's] are > they exactly prototypically made to scale with all the detail, including > underbodies? A. Most all are "scale" in that they have scale wheels, 802 couplers, all have brake components, A-B or a few K. Most have brake levers although a few may not. Many are scale conversions of AF cars folowing old articles by Russ Mobley.with completely built up underbodies with piping, AB appliances and brake levers. Some even have ladders replacing cast on ladders. > (3) Do you attempt to run scale models as true to scale as best you can? A. I don't check them against prototype as long as they appear to be scale. > (4) Are there models on your layout that are true to scale, but not > finished? Like the underbodies are not completely finished, and so on? A. Not sure what question means. Generally in principle I don't put them on the rails unless they look finished although a couple may lack brake levers. > (5) Do you have any un-scale models running on your layout? A. Not that I know of. > (6) Are you serious when you say that a SHS or AM model is off from the > prototype 1/10 of a foot, or that the slope is off a fraction, or that the > markings are wrong, or it has the wrong headlights for the model SHS-AM > and others are re-creating? A. See 3 above. If the look right at home on my layout I don't nit pick them. > (7) Are you having fun? > A. You better believe it! Wally Collins
