Hi folks: I'm getting some time to work on my layout now that I have dug out with some help from my kids the 30 plus centimetres of snow we got Thursday with more to come. Anyway I have a short problem that has me stumped.
The layout is a doubledecker with the track between the two levels running around the wall. Part way up the connecting track is a turnout (the frog is on the downside) that runs off to an industry. The frog is gapped. Anyway the power is fine to that switch. On the transformer, there is no reading on the ampmeter and the voltage goes right over to the 20 (there is nothing on the track.) Same when I test it with the electricity meter (can't think of proper name) However if I hook up any of the feeder wires above that switch the ampmeter goes as far to the right as it can and the voltage sits at around 8. Within seconds the transformer's short light comes on. So there is something sucking power. There is a turnout at the top of the connecting track. It is gapped on the frog track and I have disconnected the stock rail. The layout is wired for eventual DCC so there is a bus wire all around it with a bunch of feeder wires. I have cut the bus wire (been meaning to for some time so I can isolate sections of the layout) to the top level. The layout has run before so I know it can work. I covered a lot of the upper tracks with tape so I could scenery. The tape is gone. Anyway any suggestions.
