Hello -

I did this on an HO module.  Four foot lengths hinged to make an eight foot
module.  It worked fine with the one inch separation as you suggested.  Put
some blocks on the end corners to support the folded half.  I used a 1X6
board across both ends with some 1/4 inch bolts to hold the folded unit
together.  Folding the tops together protects them for traveling and the
shorter package is easier to handle - heavy but easier.  I used a two-wheel
dolly to haul mine.

Let us know how it works.  I have tried to come up with something similar
but the size needed for even a 24 inch radius has stopped me every time.
