Greetings:
I have received a number of e-mails telling me I am way off base
and to back off -- these people are volunteers. (No one has sent hate
mail.)
I agree that the BOT is doing a great job. I am well aware that
this is an unpaid, volunteer position. I am not criticizing the BOT.
(Hey, the NASG people I voted for were the election winners.)
My original post was a response to Ed's posting found in the digest of
the 15th:

Don't forget the NASG BOT meetings which are usually open to members
except for "sensitive topics" discussions. Here is where you can
really see what S is made of! Cheers...Ed L.

I tried to attend the NASG BOT meeting this summer and was turned away.
Wally had spent all day talking it up and got me really stoked to go. I
was well aware I couldn't say anything and the meeting would probably go
into the wee hours. Real politics / Real democracy are fun and
informative to see in action. Plus it is fantastic ground work if you
hope to someday join that group.
Wally and I were almost to the door when I was informed I couldn't
attend. My enthusiasm OF THAT HOUR was significantly dampened. I guess
this this my fault for not having memorized our NASG constitution.
I did attend the members meeting the next morning. The BOT members
were smiling and yawning because of the BOT meeting ended so late.
Right now I don't have the time to serve the office if I were to be
elected. However, this will change when Samantha moves out of the house
in about 10 years. (She is physically 12. Mentally she is 6 to 8 with
raging teenage mood swings and highly unrealistic expectations.) I will
be seriously looking at running for office in the 2015 - 2020 time
period. In the meantime, shouldn't I be looking to see what my mentors
are doing so I can try to do as good a job as they are doing?
Let's return to trains and the season. The cats knocked over the tree
only twice -- once a day for the first two days it was up. Jessica, age
5, turn on the tree's lights this morning at 5:41 AM. The Bill Lane P5a
is nestled in pine bowers on the mantle. My wife gave me a DPH
Gunderson Well car and both Pine Canyon back alley kits. My
sister-in-law gave me 'Interurban Electric Locomotives From General
Electric' by Joseph A. Strapac. And Santa filled my stocking with
sugar-free peppermints.

Subject: NASG BOT Meeting
I was with Wally Collins at the NASG Convention in Chicago this past
summer. As Wally was going to the BOT meet and I didn't have anything
else scheduled, I tried to go too.
I was quickly brought up short and informed that it is a closed meeting.
'My kind' (normal rank and file) are not allowed.
If you are not one of our NASG gods, or plan to become one, don't even
entertain the idea of really learning how this system works.
