Hi Everyone and Happy New Year! I have been reading the threads on the NMRA and NASG. This will be coming from a retailers point of view though, but I think can be used by everybody on these S-List's. When I first decided to open our store 11 years ago, We have only been open 5 months now, it was because a hobby shop in Dayton told me they didn't make S-Gauge anymore. Well, I knew better and made the decision to do this someday. The owners of the shop were HO gauge guys. I have a lot of referrals from this HO shop letting people know that I have S-Gauge and O-Gauge trains in our store. In fact, I just met one of their employees who wanted to find out about the S-Gauge. In 99 I finally joined the NASG and Just joined the NMRA this past year. I have been working hard to promote S-Gauge to all the Non-S-Gaugers in my little part of the world by taking a S-Gauge layout around to 5-6 shows a year for the past 4 years. We were even able to watch as a new club started in Indianapolis Ind., and had their first all S-Gauge gathering this year. The members were all HO and O modelers when I met them. The local chapter of the NMRA here in Dayton has been a huge help to us getting the word out about the store and about S-Gauge. It's amazing how many customers come in from the local NMRA meeting and tell me they heard I carried S-Gauge trains. I guess my point is, yes we need the NMRA also. Promoting is the key. Not to ourselves but to everyone who doesn't have S-Gauge. I sold 3 sets this Christmas to New Customers. Two were S-Helper and One was The AM Hudson and Chrome passenger cars with S- Helper track. We just have to promote more and more to the Non-S-Gaugers. There are a lot of them in the NMRA and in TCA and in LTTOS etc. Contact the local Boy Scouts like was mentioned before and help them earn their Merit badge in RR by using S-Gauge Our club helped do a Promotion in Eaton Ohio where 2 club members reside and had the club layout up from Thanksgiving to Christmas. I had 2 customers come in and buy S-Gauge trains because of the layout. The best way to promote S-Gauge is to just talk it up and show them what it is. Ladies and Gentlemen. We can conquer the world!!! LOL!!! Chris
