Well, mine arrived and I unpackaged it. With all of the reports from others
on my mind, I really didn't know what to expect. I did not get what I wanted.
I carefully lubed it as per the book and added 15 drops of smoke fluid as
per book. I put it on the track being operated by my Lionel ZW with sound
controller. The loco took off running but without a peep. I determined that
by putting some downward pressure on the tender I could get some sporadic
sounds from it. When I used the whistle button on the ZW, the loco just went
a little faster but no whistle or bell. I tried it in both directions on
my track
without results. After about a minute on the track a few wisps of smoke
came out of the stack at a random pace and then it quit.
I opened the tender to install the battery and discovered two disconnected
wires. They were a blue one and a red one and went to a pot looking piece
that seemed to be connected to the tender back up light. It is an extremely
tight fit to get the battery in there along with the jumble of wires. When I
put
it back on the track the sound unit worked just fine. The chuff and valve
sounds are very nice. What's the problem then? Well, the problem is that
all I can get is chuff and valve sounds and no smoke or no whistle or no
bell.
All the smoke unit does is spit fluid all over the loco and tender without
burning any of it. As nice a looking piece as this is, It is just a way too
complicated piece of electronics for the layman. If I could send this back
for a refund.....I would.
