Bill...Pardon me if I humbly disagree. Comparing prices that you must
actually pay is a valid and realistic evaluation. If the plastic set is
commercially available at $3.65 and the brass set is commercially
available at $7.25, then those are the prices to be compared. Thus, the
brass set is essentially double the price of the plastic set. In the
case of mass-produced plastic, the so-called normal retail price is
fictitious since lots of discounters offer products for less. Some
brass, on the other hand, is not sold via retail channels and is not
discounted. Nothing wrong with either method, but comparing what you
actually pay is more valid than comparing artificial retail prices. Ed

Not trying to be difficult (it just looks that way), but the above
assumption does not reflect reality. Where can I purchase a BTS brass
AB brake set at a 23% discount? Cannot be done to the best of my
knowledge. Please correct me if I am wrong. But there are wide variety
of discount stores that offer the mass produced products at
less-than-retail prices. Where do you think I purchase Kadee couplers,
NWSL wheelsets, Plastruct parts, scenery products, etc.? Nothing wrong
with the no-discount policy and I am not complaining about it. But if
one is to compare plastic vs. brass prices, using the actual cost
needing to be paid is more valid than any other comparison.

Well, I have noticed that soldering to plastic detail parts is not
generally very successful. So if soldering is needed, I will knock on
your door and buy some brass parts. However, I think it is common
knowledge that brass is more expensive than plastic and that was the
only point I was trying to make in the first place. Sorry if it turned
out to be long winded.
