Greetings,
Need your HELP, but first an introduction...

Looking at "S" Scale again after 15 year hiatus. Subscribed to S
Gaugian and visited with Central Jersey S Gaugers at Liberty Park
Modular set-up back in late 80's /early 90's after I sold my Post-war
Lionel stuff. Back then S Scale consisted of resistance soldering
detail parts onto AF Boiler & custom building drive.
Went to 0 Scale instead & started to build a small 11'x21' NYC Steam
era Attic layout with modest brass Loco/Caboose collection. Sort of
semi-scale with lots of converted MTH, K-Line 3-rail equipment as
well as some Lionel operating accessories & Plasticville buildings.

Already thinking of next layout even before this one is finished.
Love U.S.Hobbies Locos and took awhile to warm-up to Scale 2-rail DC
modeling after many FRUSTRATING mis-steps.
Also there was a learning curve with trackwork, wiring, etc...

However, now that I paid some dues and gained some experience willing
to consider going more Scale-like with next layout.
Will probably not build next layout until I move from current house,
but already know I DON'T WANT a LARGE dream layout. 11 x 21' was
a "big enough nut to crack" for this squirrel.
Also next home may be a Condo and may use either a 10x20'Garage bay
or spare room.
O Scale is difficult to squeeze in this size space, unless I join a
nearby club to run my larger equipment.
Hence the renewed interest in the PERFECT SIZED SCALE.

Sent off check for S Gaugian & Scenery Unlimited Catalog.
May try to get to NASG Convention in July as well.
Could use some Feedback in the interim.

Uncertain of what was produced in S Scale in last decade & half.
Funds are limited, especially for building a "Parallel Universe" and
I don't want to make as many mis-steps as I have with O Scale.

I am interested in NYC from WWII to end of Steam era.
I'm partial to 0-8-0 switchers, Woodside & Bay-window Cabooses.
Were these made in brass? Are there accurate plastic ones?
How much did they sell for when first released? How much do they go
for now (more or less than original release)? Are they readily
available (i.e. buy them when I see one, or can wait awhile)?

Notice both South Wind & Overland NYC Brass Niagara & Hudson on e-bay
for near O Scale prices.
Are these good runners? If not what do they need to "blueprint" them?
Again what was original price & currently what would be a good
purchase price & what is their availability?

I also like Hoppers, but found more than I could ever want on S
Helper Service & American Models websites.

Finally American Models still has some "Scale" (painted) Empire State
Express's in stock with (painted but short 74') Passenger cars.
Noticed on discussion group John Bell did extensive work on his Loco,
but couldn't access photos. What's the "beta" on these models? Is
there any chance a better one is "in the works" (i.e. purchase this
one & someone announces a Brass import)? See on some websites list
85' aluminum kits. Are these still available in various cars? What
is the quality? Again what are chances of generic 85' plastic ones
showing up in future.

Sorry for all the questions, but as you can see I am serious about
converting. Any & all help would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Dennis Hultay Bloomfield NJ
