The NMRA clearance gage still applies for clearances. But wait: That's for "older" railroad eras (say pre-1980). Modern railroading uses the newer "Plate H" standard. Both of these templates are included in the NASG's "SMOD" standards booklet, available from yours truly for $2 postpaid (US stamps or check payable to "NASG Inc." You don't have to be an NASG member to obtain this booklet). If you want a more durable version of either of these gages, Bill Banta sells them in plastic.
