Hi Wally (and others)... It appears that there are several different "Zephyrs" or "Zephyrlike trains" and it is unclear, at the present, as to who is referring to what. Here is my interpretation: Kaslo Shops is taking reservations for an all-Budd 8-car California Zephyr train. There is also a Pioneer Zephyr which is a Budd-built train being offered by River Raisin Models. Then there is the Burlington Zephyr train which is the same as the Pioneer Zephyr except with an additional coach. And, Dave Engle is talking about River Raisin's Zephyrlike cousin known as the Flying Yankee which ran on the Boston & Maine and Maine Central. Now to add some confusion, a good friend just told me about the Denver Zephyr, the St. Louis Zephyr, the Twin Cities Zephyr and several others, all operated by the Burlington RR. River Raisin's Flying Yankee is a brass imported 3-unit train riding on just four trucks. The first unit is a powered engine/baggage/coach car, the second unit is a coach, and the last unit is an observation/lounge/coach car. I'm sure River Raisin's web site has photos and detailed description of all three trains being offered: Flying Yankee, Pioneer Zephyr and the Burlington Zephyr. Click here: http://www.riverraisinmodels.com/curproj.html#Shovelnose Kaslo Shops Distributing's California Zephyr is an 8-car all-Budd conventional passenger train made with cast resin body/details and a stamped steel floor. Totally different from the Flying Yankee and Pioneer/Burlington Zephyr trains. Click here: http://www.kasloshops.com/projects.htm Most importantly, I do not think there is any product duplication which is the last thing S scale needs. Whew.....!!! Last but not least, I have been informed of an error in my interpretation of the comments in the Boston & Albany RR book. It was NOT the California Zephyr that ran to Boston on a promotional trip. It WAS the Pioneer Zephyr. The book referred only to "Zephyr" and I made an incorrect assumption (dumb!). Sorry 'bout that. So to correct my error, please disregard comments about the California Zephyr running on B&A/NYC tracks. 'Tain't so! But it is true that the Pennsy guys could haul California Zephyr cars out to Burlington country from Budd's plant near Philadelphia and be prototypically correct. So part of my PRR message wasn't too far off. But the PRR did not haul the entire train at one time. Only some cars here and some cars there. Cheers....Ed L. The poll results are in.......
