I'm using the older Eric Stevens article from Model Railroader as a guide to scratchbuild a flat car. He mentions in the text that flat cars sit lower on the rils than other cars, so that the car floor has to be adjusted to accomodate this. I understood from the article that fo HO the floor should be no thicker than 3/32 of an inch where the coupler mechanism is mounted.I have two questions: 1. Which coupler would you use on this car for S? 2. What overall thickness would be used for an S flat car floor? I determined it to be about 1/8 of an inch where the coupler is mounted, but I suppose that depends on the particular coupler that is used.
