I appreciate the preponderance of Flyer interests in the S scale market today. These folks make for a strong and dominant buying force. We scalers are happy to scrape a few droppings from their table whenever we can.
Seems to me AM's model succeeds very well at evoking the Flyer look. I would expect that those for whom this is their thing will be very happy with this model. Yet I find it highly ironic that a model with this sort of "classic Flyer" esthetic is brought out by AM, while Lionel's own new steam engine - their Mikado - pushed very, very hard for a scale-like look....more consistent with what one might expect from a brass import. Haven't actually seen more than Lionel photos...nor to be fair can I say I've seen more than the AM photos...but the difference seems striking. So I get more and more confused every day as to who makes what for which market. I do know it is very hard to serve more than one master...but to the extent that it can be done, my hat's off to those that really pick their market and go for it. Lionel....I remain chagrined elected not to offer scale mechanisms or cooperate with others whom might try to do so. Then it's their call to make. Maybe the diesel-only guys know what they're about since all that mechanism stuff is hidden. Anyone heard an update on the scale Mikado project? I couldn't make the convention...and as far as I know, SSL&S has been silent for some months. Love to hear more. Regards, Skip To REPLY to the list, use REPLY ALL; to reply to the sender, use REPLY.
