Not all manufacturers follow the pertinent standards as strictly as one
might hope. Some do, some do not. Mixing trucks and bodies from
different manufacturers will most likely create the need for
some "adjustments" which -- for better or for worse -- goes with the S
scale territory.

Were I in your situation, I would standardize on one brand of wheels,
one brand of truck, one coupler type, etc., and then try to build
everything as close to the NMRA/NASG standards as possible. With
everything standardized as much as reasonably possible, you will find
life is more enjoyable. Personally, I like Kadee HO couplers since
with all the variations of HO coupler styles available, adjusting
things to a workable height is not all that hard. Kadee offers above-
the-shank knuckles, below-the-shank, centered-on-the-shank, long &
short & medium shank lengths, etc., etc. to make things easier. And the
good old standard #5 comes already assembled and so you need not fiddle
around with tiny springs and the like. Look for #3 at your online
discount retailer and save a few bucks as well. Or else, give the SHS
S scale coupler a try if something a bit larger is more to your liking.

And then there are the trackwork variations!

Having fun yet??.........Cheers....Ed L. :>)
