Hi Roy;

Thanks! It's great to have someone wo knows the real numbers. That
said, I think the model can be used by most S Scalers, simply
because of the lack of similar period models for trucks. It is
clearly "wrong", but as an item of "scenery" many will find that
havin such a truck even if a oit large is more realistic (assuming
it's palced somewhat forward of the trains) than not having it.

Matchbox also have a 1938 and 1956 Ford cab forward models, but both
are actually 1/72 and way to small. I'll try to post photos of
the "GMC" model with Hartoy AHL trucks tomorrow.

The short answer is it is to big. In addition to S Scale trains, I
collect trucks, both model and prototype. I also have a large
collection of truck literature.
> I checked my GMC literature and found that this Matchbox GMC
is not a GMC, but a Chevrolet. GMC made this cab forward in both
Chevrolet and GMC. The main difference is in the grill. The GMC
grill as about square, the Chev grill is long, almost to the
headlights. On the matchbox model, notice an embossed rib above the
grill. This is for the word Chevrolet. The GMC dosen't have that.
This truck is technically is a cab forward (CF), not a Cab Over
Engine (COE). A COE dosen't have a nose or hood in front of the cab.
A CF is a fixed cab, it dosen't tilt like a COE. To gain access to
the engine on a CF, you can get to the front by the short hood. For
the rest of the engine, there is a dog house in the cab that comes
off. My Dad had an Internatinal CF truck. It had 38 bolts on the dog
house. With a COE, you tilt the cab to gain access to the engine.

Medium duty CF truck. It is the same as the GM F 474-30. The
dimensions for the Chev are as follows:
> BBC (bumper to back of cab) 88"
> FTC (frame to top of cab) 64.6"
> outside back tire width 90"

> width of fenders on cab 77"

at about 1/56. The tires and wheels are a perfect 10.00 20 for S
Scale.

way to big for them also.
