Hi Tom;

In general what used to be called "finescale" is now called "proto " 
with the scale following. In addition to finer wheel flanges, tehre 
are generally finer flangways and a more prototypical look to the 
switches and trackwork. I gather most folks in HO who go this route 
also make sure they have tie plates, joiner bars and other detail on 
the track to match the prototype.
