BTW, in HO I've seen some very nice layouts done with both the Homabed 
(serving as the cinder sub-roadbed) and N scale cork on top of that, 
directly supporting the track. The narrow cork allows the tie ends to 
stick out further, which looks more realistic when the ballest is 
applied. The S version would (of course) by S Homabed and HO cork. 
This should eb especially effective with the Tomalco S gauged code 83 
or code 70 track.
