Looks like we need some math help.

A 40 foot boxcar with 50 ton capacity.
40 feet in S Scale is 7.5 inches.  NMRA recommended weight is 2 oz
plus 1/2 oz per inch, or 5.75 oz.
50 tons is 100,000 pounds, which is 1,600,000 oz. Divide that by 64
cubed, and it comes to 6.1 oz.

Sounds pretty close to me.
