Well close enough for government work anyway ;-)
A 50 ton car actually weighs about 150,000 lbs due to the empty weight.
That makes the 64 cubed method come out to 9.1 oz which is almost
double the recomendation. Of course boxcars cars did not run fully
loaded to the max all the time so the NMRA recomended weight would
represent one loaded with 25 tons of merchandise.
Now for those Fine Scalers... do you add/remove the appropriate weight
to/from your cars when they are running loaded/empty ;-)
