Peter and all,

I am currently in the process of fabricating a master model of a gearbox that
will suit the S scale Sergent couplers... upon the completion of which I intend
to approach various manufacturers about mass-producing it (since I don't have
the ability to do so). The lack of gearboxes is the biggest drawback of the
Sergent couplers, but they are by far the most prototypical looking and
operating couplers out there, and are so by a million miles. The S scale
version of them require assembly, but it really isn't that hard to do. Buy
yourself a sample of them and give them a shot.

  Folks,

I'm starting to convert my SHS and AM freight rolling stock
to "scale"couplers. I've already installed four of SHS's Kadee
compatible couplers to a couple of reefers, and am planning to put an
equal number of Kadee's into service to get a feel for the tradeoffs in
looks, operations, and ease of assembly/installation. I know that
Sargent makes S scale couplers as well, but know little else. I'd be
interested in any suggestions or pointers on this subject from you more
experienced hands.
