The grabs can be done with a piece of wire- the prototype uses a straight
bar for the ladder rungs.
I've seen a few of these cars with molded-on stirrups. Apparently there's a
high rate of breakage during manufacturing. If the body comes out of the
die with 4 intact steps, they're left on. Otherwise, they all get clipped
off.
