Re:  KD style couplers on tight radius curves - it has been our 
experience that the futher the coupler is away from the center of the 
truck that is next to it, the more likely it is to pull off the next 
car.  This is esp. true on "S" curves.  If you have the clearance and 
can move the coupler inward, towards the center of the tender, it may help.
