You might want to give ceiling tiles a try. Jim Six is using this on his Yahoo!Group list <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/J6-layout/>. He was able to contour 15' in about 30 minutes including some gab time, plus is able to use the ceiling tile as his roadbed (the ditches are carved out, creating natural contoured ballast). It is actually foamboad covered with ceiling tiles.
I've been fortunate to help out, and am amazed at how quickly, and clean, ceiling tiles are to contour. Check out the group or his latest photos at <http://photobucket.com/albums/b337/jsix/?start=all>. Unfortunately, this doesn't help out for your rock faces or for mountainous terrain.
