I wonder if it would be possible for NASG to sponsor the production of a document / booklet that describes what is involved in creating a product in S Scale. I have occasionally thought that others might be interested in some castings I have produced for my own modeling, but I have no business sense at all. These are the main questions I have:
How good is good enough? I see every flaw in everything I make, and have difficulty believing anyone would pay for the same casting. How do you figure out costs like customer returns, utilities, anything we non-business people don't think of? How do you find a good company that does (fill in the blank: photoetching, laser lithography...)? How do you estimate sales? How do you set a price? How do you locate materials? Do you have to buy and try ten brands to find the one that works best? I'm not looking for answers to these questions here, since if I have those answers I'll just think of ten more questions. What I really need is a guide that answers the questions I didn't think of. I think it would be great if someone like Bill or another small run manufacturer would keep a diary of a project from idea to shipping. That would be interesting to read even if I never thought of producing something myself. -Michael Eldridge -San Jose --- In [email protected], "Bill Lane" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > WE need to reexamine the > purpose of the NASG if it becomes a manufacturing body competing for the S > dollar with current S manufacturers.
