You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but your logic is flawed.
If the NASG was to refuse to sponsor new products because of a flop
(or debacle as you so eloquently put it), projects like the Pullmans,
which came well after the Brick Building would not have come about. I
pushed for the building back when S didn't have a lot going for it in
the structures department. It was a chance to get us off the ground
with that project and the Armco Steel Building, which has enjoyed
modest success. However, I don't have to quote HST when I accept
responsibility for that failure. When the NASG came out with the GN
caboose, it was a flop, but that didn't stop us from continuing to put
out Flyer cars each year and learn from the mistake. It would be a
huge mistake to pull back and not take chances for the betterment of S
because on one debacle.

Bill pretty much summed up the fine line that the NASG walks when he
mentioned that the Pullman project was OK since it didn't involve a
completely new product. When is a project OK, and when is it not OK?
I had lots of arguments with manufacturers who felt that the NASG was
in direct competition with them. We tried very hard not to do that,
but once again, you have to walk that fine line. Many of our
manufacturers depend on whatever business S engenders for their
livelihood and that has to be considered. I just hope that you'll be
fair and trust the NASG leadership to do their best for S even if the
best sometimes doesn't work out.
