"Build it and they will come!"

The original Free-mo HO standards grew because someone built to it
and exhibited. If you want folks to join you, sometimes you have to
build first...Then they will join...Who knows, you may find Sn3
modelers or other modelers wanting to join you...Because they want
to be part of something...Scale, Gauge, Prototype do not have
meaning. Folks would rather be part of something "BIG"
or "SIGNIFICANT". Basically...Just DO IT!

I do not agree with the above statement. What allows one to visit
with the audience is being out with the audience. The majority of
display layouts are ovals with the operators inside and the audience
outside. The layout forms a barrier between the
operators/owners/builders and the audience. The best way to
interact with the audience is to be outside the layout. Operating
is good, building scenery is good, any activity that gives the
audience reason to ask questions and become involved...I like to
hand the throttle to the audience...Running in loops with trains
chasing each other makes it hard to hand the throttle to the
audience, as there is nothing for them to do....I could go on and
on....

In Short...Free-mo puts operators out there with the audience....

ANother consideration is audience...Free-mo is targeted at adults,
mostly fellow modelers...It is not targeted at kids who want ot see
trains go fast...I should probably not state kids, as many kids love
to operate...
